C8 Sciences School Use Privacy Policy

This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains how “Personal Information” is collected, used, stored, and shared by C8 Sciences. Personal Information means any information that identifies a particular individual or that allows someone to identify or contact that person, including for example, their name, address, telephone number, and email address. This policy applies to our website, cognitive training programs, cognitive assessments, and other functions and services we may provide from time to time (the “Services”). By registering with us or using our Services, you expressly consent to the information handling practices in this Privacy Policy. If you are agreeing to these terms on behalf of an organization or entity, you represent and warrant that you are authorized to agree to these terms on behalf of that organization or entity and bind them to these terms. If you reside outside the United States, you understand that your personal information will be processed in another country (such as the United States) where laws regarding processing Personal Information may be less stringent than in your country.

C8 Sciences Values Your Privacy And The Privacy Of Your Students.

C8 Sciences WILL NOT sell, trade, or assign any unaggregated, Personal Information that it collects to third parties outside of C8 Sciences. If C8 Sciences shares any such information with a third party, it will be in accordance with the terms of this privacy policy and for the limited purposes that we discuss below. We DO NOT use advertising networks that present ads to you and do not utilize ads from third parties in conjunction with our Services. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding this Privacy Policy, you may contact us at the email and address posted at the end of this policy statement. We are committed to addressing your privacy or security questions or concerns.

1. Information Collected by C8 Sciences

In order for a student (by “student” we mean the end-user of any age, child or adult, of our cognitive-training Services) to participate in C8 Sciences Services, an authorized school official of that student or a clinician or other legally authorized person must first register at the C8 Sciences School Portal website. If you do not register at our website, you and your student(s) will not be able to use our Services. This registration process will require you to provide your name and email address. Once you have registered, you may then sign up your student(s) for the Services by providing a username for each student, their gender, and current school grade level. We strongly recommend the use of anonymous usernames, as numerous teachers, administrators or other officials within a school or district may have access to the information in our portal. We call this information “Registration Information.” We will also require a process to verify your consent to the registration of your student and to the collection of your student’s Registration Information.

When your students use our cognitive training programs, we record the actions they have taken in those programs, for example what buttons they click and when they click them; events that occur, for example, when they start or complete a training exercise or begin a new level in an exercise; and their system usage, progress, assessment, and performance data. This data does not contain any Personal Information but is linked to the username-related information provided when you registered the student in our system. We track the use of our Services over time because such tracking is required for us to monitor the progress of your students while using the cognitive training exercises and provide them with exercises that are personalized for them. We call this information “Performance Data.”

When you access or use our Services, we receive certain usage or network activity information. This includes information about your interaction with the Services, for example, when you view or search content or create or log into your account, the IP addresses that we get when users connect to our Services, information that is sent by web browsers automatically when they connect to our website (such as the type of web browser, the operating system used, screen size and resolution, and the time and date at which you access our Services), and the timing and frequency of how users interact with different content and different areas of our website.

Like many websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to collect additional website usage data and to operate our services. Although most web browsers automatically accept cookies, many browsers’ settings can be set to decline cookies or alert you when a website is attempting to place a cookie on your computer. However, some of our Services may not function properly if you disable cookies. When your browser or device allows it, we use both session cookies and persistent cookies to better understand how you interact with our Services, to monitor aggregate usage patterns, and to personalize and otherwise operate our services such as by providing account security and remembering your language preferences.

We collect information about you when you send, receive, or engage with messages in connection with our Services. For example, if you get a notification to complete a training session, we track whether you have acted on it and may send you reminders.

2. How C8 Sciences Will Use The Information Collected From You

Email Address: Your email address will serve as your login username. Your email address may be used to send a confirmation email at registration, as well as information and updates to the Services. In some cases, we will also email your student’s personal reports to you, with further information about the progress your student is making on the Services. We may use the email address as an additional means of communicating with you about the Services and C8 Sciences, including notifying you of updates to the web site or its related policies. Our emails include a link to unsubscribe, and the School Portal includes Email Settings options to change email settings.

Student’s Username: Your student’s username will be used to link to their Performance Data, customize your student’s participation in the Services, as well as to personalize the reports and updates about your student’s progress in the Services.

Phone Number: Your phone number will serve as an alternate way of contacting you for the same purposes as the email address.

Student’s School Grade Level: We will use a student’s grade level to group Performance Data of children of similar grade levels so we can assess, compare and report performance by grade level, and improve the program.

Student’s Gender: We will use a student’s gender to personalize the Program’s experience, and make written cognitive reports easier to read (i.e. by selecting the appropriate pronoun used in reference to the student). In addition, we will use a student’s gender to group the Performance Data of children of the same gender so we can assess performance by gender, and improve the program.

Mailing Address: Your mailing address may be used to allow C8 Sciences to mail you and/or your student various Program materials and ancillary program products.

Performance Data: Performance Data will be collected for the creation of online and written cognitive reports, client service,, development, and other operational and business purposes, including improvements to the Services by C8 Sciences. We use the Performance Data and assessment information to adjust the level of difficulty presented to students by our training programs, to personalize and optimize the training benefit for them, and provide you with periodic progress reports and formal cognitive reports. We also use Performance Data to research and produce aggregated insights that do not identify any students. For example, we may use a student’s data in combination with the data of many other users to generate statistics about our users and their training performance and to publish cognitive demographic or training insights as part of our Services or in scientific journals. We use anonymous Information to conduct scientific studies, and we may publish the results, for example, at scientific conferences or in medical journals. We do not use Personal Information that could identify you or students in such work, nor do we disclose individualized Personal Information in the conduct of such work.

We may also share Personal Information if we have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation, or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request; (b) enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof; (c) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; (d) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of C8 Sciences, its users, or the public; or (e) as required or permitted by law.

We never share Personal Information with any third party other than our service providers such as website hosting, data analysis, information technology and related infrastructure hosting services, customer service, email delivery, auditing, payment processing and other organizations necessary to deliver our Services. In addition, we do not offer chat rooms or community features that allow the sharing or posting of Personal Information in a public forum. We also do not display any advertising on the Services.

3. Opting-Out Of Providing The Information We Request

Because the C8 Sciences Services are individualized and customized for each student, all the information we request from you and your student is required for you and your student to participate in the Services. At any time, you may revoke your consent to allowing your student to participate in the C8 Sciences Services, refuse to allow C8 Sciences to further use or collect your student’s Personal Information, or request that we delete any information that would allow the identification of any student. However, in those instances, we retain the right to anonymize the Performance Data that was collected up until that time so that it can no longer be associated with a student’s Personal Information but may still be used in an aggregated form for research purposes. If you request that we remove a student’s username from our Services, your student will no longer be able to participate in the Services and you will not be able to access Performance Data regarding that student unless you register them again.

4. Reviewing and changing your information

You may review and modify your Registration Information at any time by accessing our website using your password.

5. Consent

In order to use the Services, you will be asked to submit certain Personal Information about you and to authorize C8 Sciences to use that information in a limited number of ways. We will require you to review and submit an End User License Agreement as part of the registration process, which will require you to consent to our collection and use of information directly from your student over the Internet as described above.

6. Password Protection

You will be asked to select a password to access the Services through our website, and this password will be used to allow your student to use the Services. Your password should be kept confidential. 7. Protecting Your Information

We keep your account information, like your name, email address, and password, for as long as your account is in existence because you need it to operate your account.

We take customary and reasonable measures designed to protect the confidentiality, security and integrity of all information collected from our Services, both during transmission and once we receive it. This includes the use of encryption, firewalls, and other security technologies to prevent access to the data from unauthorized parties. All connections between users and our Services are secured via encryption communication technology (SSL/TLS). We use highly regarded application hosting providers who agree to perform frequent diagnostics, operating system updates, network security monitoring and data backups. However, no company, including our hosting providers or C8 Sciences, can fully eliminate security risks connected to handling information on the internet. You acknowledge that security safeguards, by their nature, are capable of circumvention, and C8 Sciences does not and cannot guarantee that your Personal Information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by unauthorized persons capable of overcoming such safeguards.

Our Services may cause cookies from third-party sites or applications to be saved on your browser or device. Our Privacy Policy does not cover these third-party cookies since we do not have any control over them. Also, we may partner with third parties to manage our advertising on other sites. More specifically, we may use Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, or other providers to place advertisements for our Services on different sites across the internet. Such third parties may use technologies such as cookies to gather information about your activities on the Services and other sites you visit for purposes over which we have no control.

We cannot be responsible for any of your Personal Information that you release on your own, or that you request or authorize us to release.

8. Your information and third parties

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, as C8 Sciences continues to develop its business, it might sell some or all of its assets. In such transactions, customer information is generally one of the transferred business assets. An acquiring company would be required to protect all information that C8 Sciences collects from users of our website and Services in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy.

9. Unsolicited Third-Party Promotional Emails

C8 Sciences will not send you unsolicited third-party promotional emails.

10. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act

Congress has enacted a law called the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) which is designed to protect children’s privacy during use of the Internet. C8 Sciences has implemented practices consistent with the guidelines provided by the Federal Trade Commission to date.

C8 Sciences will never knowingly request personally identifiable information or private content from anyone under the age of 13 without parental/school consent. If you subscribe to our Services, provided you are 18 years of age or older, you will be asked, at the time of registration, whether you consent to allowing users under the age of 13 to use your subscription and to be subject to this Privacy Policy. You must be the parent or legal guardian or a school official to grant such consent. If we receive this consent, we may receive Personal Information from children under the age of 13 listed on your subscription account in order to provide our Services to them. C8 SCIENCES DOES NOT SHARE CHILDREN’S PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WITH THIRD PARTIES. If you are a parent or legal guardian or school official of a user under 13 you may, at any time, revoke your consent to allow your student to use the Services under your subscription, refuse to allow C8 Sciences to further use or collect your student’s Personal Information, or direct C8 Sciences to delete all identifiable information regarding your student that you have provided. To do so, please contact our Privacy Officer at the contact information below. However, if you do any of the foregoing, your student will not be able to use the Services.

If you would like more information about COPPA, please go to http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm.

11. The Children’s Internet Protection Act

The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is a federal law enacted by Congress in December 2000 to address concerns about access to offensive content over the Internet on school and library computers. CIPA imposes certain types of requirements on any school or library that receives funding support for Internet access or internal connections from the “E-rate” program — a program that makes certain technology more affordable for eligible schools and libraries. Our Programs do not provide links to external resources or chat rooms, and do not contain any offensive or inappropriate matter. As a result, any school or library that uses C8 Sciences Services will be fully compliant with CIPA. If you would like more information about CIPA, please go to http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cipa.html.

12. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level.

C8 Sciences is fully compliant with FERPA. Specifically:

Any sensitive online information is transmitted over secure channels.

All student data are stored in ways that are not publicly accessible.

Security audits are regularly performed to ensure data integrity.

C8 Sciences does not share student information with any third parties. If a school requests that student data should be sent to a third party, with parental consent, C8 Sciences would send the data to the school and never directly to the third party.

If you would like more information about FERPA, please go to http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html.
